So, I approached this as a Lovecraft fan and not a Holmes fan. While any collection of pastiche is likely to contain both hits and misses, this collection, with the clash of styles inherent in the theme, leans heavily towards the latter category. For nearly as long, the macabre tales ofH. Vaughn Sherlock Holmes and the Ancient Gods, etc. Three weak stories and excellent work in the Gaiman, Stableford, and Kiernan pieces. In this collection of all-new, all-original tales, twenty of today's most cutting-edge writers provide their answers to that burning question.
As for the rest, well, the less said the better, particularly as I quite like some of these writers when they are in their own element.
